In 2017, Jumoke, a 27-year-old mother of two was hawking bread on the streets of Lagos. She photo-bombed a photography session of photographer TY Bello & British rapper Tinie Tempah.
The photographer thought Jumoke photo-bombing the picture could as well serve as a “love interest” in the picture.
Soon after the photographer posted the picture on Instagram, comments flew in from followers taking an interest in Jumoke. With questions like “Was she a model?”, and “How did she balance the bread on her head?”
TY Bello explained that she photo-bombed the shoot and was no model. She began her search for her by going back to where she found her and left a message for anyone who sees her.
Jumoke, who spoke almost no English and was making between 300 – 700naira (approx. $1-$2) in profit daily, became a real-life fairy tale.
In the past, she had two internships as a hairdresser (which was her job back home in Osun state, Nigeria, before she came to Lagos to sell bread through her relative).
According to CNN, she was offered some education and a bank offered to pay for her children to attend school.
Jumoke also got a joint scholarship initiated by Sujimoto Group and co-sponsored by Sujimoto Group and Poise Nigeria to learn Etiquette, Social grace and Grooming for a year.
An e-commerce brand in Nigeria called Payporte also reached out to her for their next billboard campaign.
